New high thermal conductivity bioplastics
Nec has developed a new plant-based bioplastics that has the same thermal conductivity as stainless steel. The company blends corn-based polylactic acid resin with carbon fiber a few millimeters long and 0.01mm in diameter and a special binder to produce a new type of bioplastics with high thermal conductivity. When mixed with 10% carbon fiber, the bioplastics have the same thermal conductivity as stainless steel. When 30% carbon fiber is added, the bioplastics have twice the thermal conductivity of stainless steel and only 1/5 the density of stainless steel.
Apart from good thermal conductivity, this kind of biological plastic also has the advantages of light weight, easy molding and small environmental pollution. It can be used to produce the outer frame of light and thin electronic products such as computers and mobile phones.
Changeable plastic film

Researchers at the university of Sheffield have created an artificial "plastic blood" that looks like thick paste enough to be dissolved in water and used as a blood substitute in emergencies. The new blood is made up of plastic molecules, millions of them in a single piece of blood. The molecules are similar in size and shape to hemoglobin molecules and carry iron atoms that carry oxygen around the body like hemoglobin does. As the raw material is plastic, this kind of artificial blood is portable and easy to carry, does not need to be kept in cold storage, has a long shelf life, higher work efficiency than the real artificial blood, and lower cost.
New bulletproof plastics
